Bakcou E-Bike Service & Care

Mokwheel E-Bikes

Bakcou
Built To Ride.

Bakcou (pronounced "backcountry") builds heavy-duty fat-tire e-bikes purpose-built for hunting, off-road, and all-season backcountry use, with models like the Mule, Kodiak AWD, Flatlander, Scout, and Storm. Many models run the powerful Bafang Ultra mid-drive motor (IP65-rated with metal gearing for durability) paired with high-quality lithium-ion batteries, and several offer full suspension or internal-gearing (Jäger) options. Designed to haul gear over snow, sand, gravel, and rugged terrain, they emphasize traction, ruggedness, and long service life with strong US-based support.

Care & Coverage

Everything that keeps your Mokwheel rolling, backed by real people you can visit.

01

Battery

keep the lithium-ion battery topped off when not in use; before extended storage charge it to full, but don't leave it on the charger after it reaches 100%, and avoid running the pack all the way down to 0%.

02

Motor

the Bafang Ultra motor is built to be maintenance-free (IP65-rated with metal gearing), so there's no routine internal service; keep it clean and reach out to support if issues arise.

03

Fat tires

keep an eye on tire pressure and set it for the terrain and conditions, and inspect tread and sidewalls, replacing tires proactively as rubber degrades or after large punctures.

04

Suspension

on full-suspension models, check that the fork/shock hold the correct PSI for your weight as part of your pre-ride routine.

05

Chain and drivetrain

keep the chain clean and lubricated so the bike shifts smoothly; a dirty chain wears out cogs and gears faster.

06

Brakes

Bakcou's hydraulic brakes need periodic bleeding, and rotors and pads wear out over time; replace pads when material is low and you feel reduced braking power (a bike shop can bleed brakes inexpensively).

07

Shifter cables

the metal shift cables run in housing and last a long time, but they corrode and weaken eventually, so replace them periodically for smooth shifting.

08

Pre-ride ABC check and service

use the ABC check before rides (Air in tires/suspension, Brakes working with good pad/rotor material, Chain clean and lubricated); an annual professional service helps catch wear before it becomes a breakdown.

Frequently Asked

Answers to the questions we hear most from riders.

Can Mokwheel service my Bakcou hunting bike?
Yes, we service all brands. The wear items on a Bakcou (hydraulic brakes, drivetrain, shift cables, tires, suspension) are systems we work on regularly, and hard backcountry use tends to accelerate that wear. For Bafang motor or battery concerns we'll diagnose the issue and help you coordinate with Bakcou's US-based support if a warranty claim is needed.
My Bakcou's hydraulic brakes feel spongy. What's wrong?
A spongy lever usually means the hydraulic system needs bleeding, or the pads are worn low. Bring it in and we'll inspect the pads and rotors, bleed the brakes if needed, and restore firm, reliable stopping power, which matters a lot on loaded off-road descents.
Do I need to do anything to maintain the motor?
No routine internal maintenance is required on the Bafang Ultra motor, which is sealed (IP65) with durable metal gearing. Just keep it clean, avoid blasting it with high-pressure water, and let us take a look if you ever notice unusual noise or a performance drop.
How should I store my Bakcou battery over the off-season?
Charge it to full before a long storage period, then take it off the charger rather than leaving it plugged in indefinitely, and avoid letting it sit fully drained. Store it indoors in a dry, moderate-temperature space and top it up periodically; bring it in if range drops sharply when you start riding again.
My shifting has gotten sloppy. Is that the cables?
It could be. Shift cables corrode and stretch over time even inside their housing, which degrades shifting. We can inspect and replace the cables and housing and adjust the derailleur to get crisp shifting back, and check the chain and cassette for wear while we're at it.
How often should I service my Bakcou?
For typical off-road use, a professional tune-up about once a year is a solid baseline, plus the ABC (Air, Brakes, Chain) check before each ride and a closer look before big trips. If you ride frequently in mud, sand, or snow, plan on more regular drivetrain cleaning and brake checks.
