Tern E-Bike Service & Care

Mokwheel E-Bikes

Tern
Built To Ride.

Tern makes premium compact, folding, and cargo e-bikes engineered to replace car trips, with flagship models like the GSD and HSD family cargo bikes and the Quick Haul, plus folding bikes such as the Vektron. Their e-bikes are typically built around Bosch drive systems (motor, battery, and the Bosch Smart System with app/display integration), emphasizing long-haul-of-cargo capability, low standover, and clever storage/folding. Tern is known for careful engineering, high load capacities, and its dealer-focused support model, backed by an extended frame/fork warranty and a 7-Year Support parts commitment.

Care & Coverage

Everything that keeps your Mokwheel rolling, backed by real people you can visit.

01

Dealer-assembled and serviced

Tern e-bikes are sold and tuned through Tern-authorized (and Bosch-certified) shops, so professional assembly and periodic service are part of the ownership model.

02

Service intervals

Tern recommends professional maintenance roughly every 6 months or about every 1,000 km (around 620 miles), whichever comes first; the onboard Bosch computer can also be used to set customized service intervals based on your riding.

03

Battery

charge the Bosch battery with its dedicated charger, store it in a cool, dry place at a moderate charge level, and avoid extreme heat or cold; follow the Bosch/Tern guidance in your manual for long-term storage.

04

Firmware/display

keep the Bosch Smart System firmware and companion app up to date (updates are typically handled via the app or at your dealer) so the display, assist, and any connected features work correctly.

05

Tires

keep tires at the pressure on the sidewall and check before rides; correct pressure matters more on loaded cargo bikes for handling, flat resistance, and range.

06

Chain and drivetrain

clean and lubricate the chain regularly, since grit and heavy cargo loads accelerate wear on the chain, cassette, and chainrings.

07

Brakes

brake condition is critical on heavy cargo bikes, so check pad wear and adjustment regularly and service promptly to keep full stopping power when carrying loads or passengers.

08

Cargo and load checks

respect the model's rated maximum gross vehicle weight and accessory/rack limits, verify child seats, racks, and cargo accessories are correctly mounted and torqued, and confirm the folding handlepost/frame latches are fully secured before every ride.

Frequently Asked

Answers to the questions we hear most from riders.

Do I have to take my Tern to an authorized dealer, or can Mokwheel service it?
Tern designs its support around authorized dealers, but as an independent shop we can handle routine mechanical service (brakes, drivetrain, tires, adjustments) on your Tern. For Bosch Smart System diagnostics, firmware, or warranty work, an authorized Bosch/Tern dealer may be required, and we'll tell you when that's the case so nothing jeopardizes your coverage.
How often should my Tern cargo bike be serviced?
Tern suggests professional maintenance about every 6 months or roughly every 1,000 km (about 620 miles), whichever comes first. Heavy cargo hauling, frequent riding, and wet conditions can justify shorter intervals, and we can help set a schedule that matches how you use the bike.
Can you work on the Bosch motor and system?
We can handle the mechanical side and basic diagnostics, but Bosch drive systems, firmware updates, and internal motor service are generally handled through Bosch-certified dealers using Bosch's diagnostic tools. If we find a Bosch-specific issue, we'll diagnose it and refer you to the right certified shop.
My brakes feel weaker when the bike is loaded with kids or cargo. Is that a problem?
Heavier loads demand more from the brakes, so pad wear and proper adjustment are especially important on a GSD or HSD. Bring it in and we'll inspect pads and rotors, adjust or service the brakes, and make sure you have confident stopping power under load.
How do I keep the Bosch battery healthy?
Use the Bosch charger, store the battery indoors in a cool, dry place at a moderate charge, and avoid leaving it in extreme heat or cold. Keep the Smart System app and firmware current, and bring the bike in if you notice a sudden drop in range so we can test the system.
Are there weight limits I should worry about?
Yes, cargo bikes have a rated maximum gross vehicle weight that includes rider, passengers, and cargo, plus limits on specific racks and accessories. Staying within those limits and mounting accessories correctly is important for safety and longevity, and we can check that your setup is within spec and properly torqued.
